The Moblie Screening Unit (MSU) is a state-of-the-art 38-foot trailer pulled by a separate tractor unit. The extended mural, painted by artist Gere Harley, follows the Snake River plain from Eastern Idaho to the Oregon Border. The inside of the unit is equipped with a sink and seven testing stations. It is air-conditioned and propane heated for all weather comfort.
Since its opening day in Weiser, Idaho in March of 2000 the Mobile Screening Unit has, with the help of the Lions clubs of MD39, screened over 18,000 people annually.
Screening is kept free of charge through donations of time and money from local Lions Clubs, as well as other community-minded organizations. The Mobile Screening Unit has screened children at elementary schools and the general public at health fairs, retirement homes and businesses. The unit is equipped to provide hearing, vision, blood pressure and diabetes screenings. The screenings are conducted by trained volunteers and volunteer professionals.
Idaho Lions have worked to conduct accurate screenings and maintain a level of professionalism which reflects the Lions standards of organization, coordination, loyalty, service and friendship. We work to treat every individual with dignity, compassion and respect. Thanks to dedicated Lions volunteers, the mobile screening unit program continues to expand and serve more individuals in our Idaho and Eastern Oregon communities.
